The devs don’t really care, usually. It’s the publishers that hate this.
I actually hope people do pirate the software I write for a living. I just have bosses because we live in a stupid economy with imaginary property. Most of my labor is stolen anyways, I just want it to help more people.
Yes. Thank you.
It’s the publishers.
Game publishers, but yeah
AAA publishers.
If buying is owning, then filesharing still isn’t stealing 🤷
If I rob your house and take your computer, you no longer have a computer. If I copy a file you have, you still have the original file. Now you could still call it harmful, so there’s already word you can use! It’s called Piracy.
It’s not pirating or stealing. It’s gathering data for AI development.
That’s why they don’t call it stealing but copyright infringement or EULA violation.
How is it an EULA violation if I never agreed to it when I didn’t purchase it?
Not you, but the person making the game available through unofficial channels.
Also isn’t it part of the user license that you’re only allowed to play if you agree to the EULA?
For a EULA to be “valid”, and oh boy am I using valid very loosely, it needs to be agreed before purchase and stipulates that its valid if you purchase the “product”. As I did not purchase it, how is the EULA valid to me?
That’s enemy talk.
They steal our freedom to buy the product.
Movie companies too
Though you still have patent nonsense, so only AV1 Opus is actually free media
I remember growing up, piracy was the only way I could experience certain games when my old ass computer could actually handle it. Nowadays I do my best to pay for everything I consume and enjoy, content creators and all.
I don’t think I would have the tastes or beliefs I do today if I never did it.
