It is in the Bears best interest for Fields to play well. Either we keep him, or trade him, but either way we want him to play better.
It is entirely plausible that the Bears miss out on the #1 and #2 pick, maybe even #3. It is a very real possibility that the Bears draft a Fields replacement later in the draft (McCarthy or another prospect) who backs up Fields next year. Someone the Bears can actually develop as a QB.
This notion that our options are Fields, Maye or Williams…that is a dream scenario. A more likely option is we have two first round picks we use on someone other than a top QB or MHJ, and we keep Fields.
None of these are bad options, but nothing is settled.
