I plan on installing a living room fan. I prefer pull chain fans, as the minimal amount of wiring crammed under the canopy. Would be great to control my fan via my Lutron app. Is this switch compatible with all pull chain fans and reliable? Thanks

Really pull chain fans are the only fans that are reliable and recommend. You set it to max speed via chain and then the switch will accurately control speed

The switches are super reliable and work great. I have one in each bedroom of my house, and they are awesome.

I bought nice Hunter pull chain fans, and once I had them set up, removed the pull chains from the exterior of the housing so they have a nice clean look.

The pico controllers are great too- I have one on my bedside table.

Most fans with a wireless control just a pull chain fan without the pull chain, and the wireless bit is a separate module. My home has two gang switch boxes for each bedroom and two hots running to each ceiling fixture (red and black). I was able to completely omit the wireless control that came with the fan and just direct wire everything to the switches. I used a dimmer and a fan control and they both work great. The only issue is that the LED doesn’t have a linear dimming curve and it doesn’t come on reliably below 10%.

You don’t need a pull chain fan.

If you have separate wiring for lights and fan, you can use a remote controlled fan as long as it is AC-powered and has a separate remote receiver in the canopy. You just bypass the remote receiver and wire the fan directly to AC power, then the Lutron fan switch acts as the speed controller.

This applies to any AC fan and wall mounted fan switch. I’ve done it several times. It works perfect (and looks better than pull chain fans)
