I see Richardson often lumped in with Stroud as rookie QBs who were balling out.
I disagree. Richardson showed some high end talent, but his Rams game was very ugly passing wise. He had 4 completion thru 53 minutes of the game
- Richardson ranked 33rd in passing grade by PFF.
- He had the 4th worst on target throws.
- The Colts ran a very simple pass offense
- He had the lowest pass yards per game.
Now coming off a shoulder surgery, it just doesn’t seem like he is going to succeed.
If I were gonna mention only one statistic to summarize a QB’s performance, it would certainly not be completion percentage, like the title has.
I think if I was trying to figure out one number to eyeball whether a rookie’s 4-game season showed any promise (especially accounting for his rushing-heavy style), it would simply be points. Richardson’s offense put up a respectable 24.5 points per game, a bit above average. It was a low-volume pass offense though, and his future remains completely unknown for sure.
