I know people will say “We don’t know how Stroud does on Bears” but you could say that for anyone. The next guy Bears draft you could say “We don’t know how Williams/Maye does on Bears”
Reasons for:
- Stroud has elevated mid term WRs and gets the ball out fast.
- He passes eye test and is MVP contender as a rookie
- He is on a mid team overall so its kinda comparable to Bears situation
Case against doing it
- You have 2 top 3 picks.
- I guess you got an answer on Fields (though I already had one on Fields before this season
I think you underrate how good of a coaching staff Ryan has. Like I would think he’d be candidate for coach of the year. He’s done an amazing job. It can’t be understated how a stable front office and caching staff is for a young team.
Please report OP for shit posting. They keep doing it
Stroud. I’m sorry, but you have to get out of QB hell when the opportunity arises. The bears right now are in QB hell.
I love CJ, and I could be wrong, but it doesn’t seem like he gets the ball out very fast. His protection has been pretty good, somehow; he’s 5th in the league in time to throw, and based just on the Bengals game, we didn’t really pressure him at all. Believe it or not, he even had a negative CPOE while torching us, which is more of an indictment of our defense than anything. I agree though that Collins, Brown, and Dell all look great and that’s in no small part thanks to his accuracy.
I don’t think we have an answer on Fields.
He was awful in the first three games of the season where I would argue that Stroud and pretty much anyone other QB would have also sucked. Then he was very good for two games, but it’s possible for anyone to be good for two games. And in those two games we didn’t really see a vastly improved Fields so much as we saw the Bears finally giving him a game plan that worked for him, but also probably wasn’t one that is sustainable.
The major thing with Stroud is the contract. Fields might be as good or better than Stroud but the Bears don’t have the time to find out, having already wasted the cheap years of his contract.
But then the thing with also not drafting Stroud is that IMO the Bears would have wasted Stroud’s first year and not had a clear picture of how good he is just like they still don’t with Fields. So if we theorize that perhaps the Bears coaching staff finally knows what it is doing and has the pieces in place for the QB next year, then potentially you draft Williams and he comes out firing as good as Stroud has or better right out of the gate and that’s the best QB situation of all.
