There are smart home AI companies like Josh.ai but do you guys think they can make any meaningful impact or disruption?

Will AI have any impact on Smart Home industry in any way?

AI has been impacting the smart home industry at least since AI-powered face recognition in surveillance cameras. I think another interesting field of application is sentiment analysis, i.e. based on how you feel to automatically adjust room climate, lighting, etc. to “lighten the mood”. Otherwise, the AI inside both vac and mop bots can only improve, I feel they are unimpressive right now.

Ehhhhhh, that’s not quite AI. Unless you count face focus tracking on your 2007 point-and-shoot digital camera also as AI. That’s more machine learning, or in some cases neural nets.

I think in the end, we all want a Jarvis that is not only a smart home AI but a smart life AI. Maybe at some point we trust it to buy groceries, pay bills, manage our appointments. It makes sure the kids get up on time for school. It takes all the boring adult stuff so we can focus on more of the fun stuff.

It will be a core to how we communicate in a natural way. I expect that to happen pretty quickly.

I would also imagine it will begin to affect network and automation optimization, as well as to start learning habits in and outputting automations or in home adjustments in a generative way, rather than predictive. This is the second wave so to speak in the current world of AI. Generative vs predictive.

I think it will impact, but i think one of the big things is how trustworthy is the AI? I’m all for AI in my home automation, but not if it’s just being used to hoover up my data and sell it to another company.
