Hey everyone,

So, I’ve been wondering about what the Bears could potentially do to solve their issue at QB. While I don’t think Justin Fields is horrible, I don’t see him as a long-term starter in the NFL either. At least not in a traditional NFL offense, maybe more in the role of a Taysom Hill.

If we do get the first or second overall pick in the 2024 draft, I think we will most definitely select one of Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Let’s say we dont, Carolina wins 3 or 4 games, we do too and we end up with picks #4 and #10 or something similar. We should probably target Marvin Harrison Jr. with our first pick, but could the second be used on a QB like Michael Penix Jr.? He’s having a fantastic season, one of the frontrunners for the Heisman, he’s accurate, has an NFL arm and could probably be molded into a solid pocket passer in most NFL schemes. The injuries are a concern, so I wouldn’t draft him SUPER high, but what’s your opinion on it? Or would you prefer any of the other QBs besides Williams or Maye?

If Poles decides that the Bears need a QB, they are going to take one with their highest draft pick. Based on the order now, that’s the #2 overall.

To try and draft a second tier QB and hope they work out is a terrible way to waste a very high draft pick

He’s a really good passer he looks fantastic in Washington, but that team has a lot of future Sunday players on it too.

The problem is he’s had 13 season ending surgeries and he’s almost older than Velus Jones Jr, so I don’t think there’s any way a respectable franchise could spend a first round pick on him.

If its not Williams or Maye, its not even a consideration. We need more talent everywhere.

If ppl criticized fields throwing motion, penix will get the same criticism. Accurate passer but don’t think I’d be happy with him at 5. If we traded back & got him around 11-20, I could live with that

Most draft analysts have Penix as a day two pick so it’d be insane to use the first on him. More than even Williams, he has an insane amount of talent around him and never gets hit. He’s been awesome this year, I just don’t buy it. Plus, some medical yellow flags as you mentioned.

Assuming Deion’s kid doesn’t come out, most have Michigan QB JJ McCarthy as QB3 but that will be tested as he finally faces decent competition over the next few weeks. I probably like Jayden Daniels next best, but he’s a day two pick as well.

MHJ will not be around at pick 4. He may not be around at pick 3. I think there’s a chance he’s the #2 overall, and that’s only because I think a QB desperate team will take a QB at #1.

If we have picks 4 and 10, we’re likely going to be taking someone like Olu Fashanu at #4 to help solidify the line and #10 will depend a lot on if we let JJ walk, who we pick up in FA, etc. It could be someone like Kool-aid McKinstry if we need a new CB to cover for JJ’s departure.

It’s worth noting there are still multiple sites mocking MHJ as the #1 overall, especially since CW has been softening with his more recent troubles. I am firmly in the camp that you take a player that will change your team, and the definitive player to do that in this draft will be MHJ.
