I live on a college campus and tonight I got like 5 notifications in a row after going to a club meeting saying that an AirTag was detected near me. I clicked on the notification, and it was tracking my location from my meeting to the dorm. Is this just a glitch? I’m a young woman so I’m just a tad worried and my parents aren’t helping 😭 I wouldn’t really think much of it but the walk was like 15 mins and it kept track the whole way

Go to the campus police no matter what. Take them the AirTag if you can find it or have them help you find it. Unless someone’s item accidentally ended up in your bag, someone’s stalking you.

AirTags use other iPhones to help locate themselves. If you travel with the same AirTag for a while it will notify you. I walked my friends dog and I got a few of them because the dog had an AirTag on his collar and it used my iPhone to help locate itself.

If you were at a club meeting it was probably because someone at the meeting had an AirTag and it used your phone to help locate itself.

Did someone else from the club walk the same direction as you?

My own AirTag gets a “an AirTag detected near you” notification. I’d see if you can still detect it. Campus police aren’t going to do anything since there’s nothing credible.

With whom did you walk the way ? If your friend has a AirTag in their wallet for example and you walk with them, you still get the warning

if the AirTag makes no sound, it doesn’t mean anything. it is easy to remove the loudspeaker. so you have to search anything. really ANYTHING.

If you know somebody that has an Android phone, tell them to download the app called ‘tracker detect’ it will detect any nearby air tags that may be lurking around you. The app is designed by Apple, btw so it’s safe to use.

I keep one in my car so when some friends get in my car they get that notification about a nearby airtag. Could be innocent but check your pockets and bags just incase

Before you freak out, search your things and try to find it. It’s possible that you’re getting that notification by mistake considering you live in a dorm. Someone near you may be using it.

The purpose of the notification however is to warn you that an AirTag that’s not yours is tracking you so it’s possible someone slipped one in your bag or backpack

:/ the people in your club probably have airtags and also live at the dorms. There are false positives when new tags are noticed in your vicinity. It’ll happen again the next club meeting. You have the option to ring it when the notification pops up next time. If you can’t hear it then it’s at someone else’s room. No worries

In a college campus I’d expect to pass dozens of AirTags since many people keep them in their backpacks (myself included). I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
