I was looking to buy a renewed NAS for my Plex server from Go Hard Drive (linked above). I’m not a fan of refurbished but if it’s certified then I would really consider it.

My question is renewed certified? I hear a lot of good things about the site which is why I’m really interested.

This is a refurbished Seagate Exos, so if you actually do get 5 years of warranty that’s a good deal

I’m a fan of refurbished, but I’m not sure $12/TB is cheap enough to justify in this case. Wouldn’t be for me.

Only heard a little bit about GHD, and what I do see always looks suspiciously like astroturfing. But thats just me.

It 100% depends on vendor, and honestly, you have no way of checking. It may mean as little as “well, we pulled it from a working system… so it’s a fair bet it’s working!”

Also keep in mind “5 year warranty” doesn’t mean a damn thing if the company is gone next year.

I’ve been buying all of my hard drives from GoHardDrive and Worldwide Product Importers (a competitor in this space).

I have bought a little over 20x at this point of various sizes (8TB to 12TB) and brands (WD, HGST, and Seagate), a few years later and they’re all still running like clockwork. I also only buy NAS/enterprise grade drives.

I’ve never purchased an “MDD” branded drive though, which is just a relabeled drive, but by the looks of the listing, looks like a Seagate Exos drive?

The hard drives always came with a warranty card that confirmed the warranty period and information on how to file a claim if needed.

Not at that price watch for black Friday sales instead. $14-$15TB new vs. 12TB used with no warranty is not a great deal.
