I wanted to get another USB expansion module for my 13" AMD that arrived earlier in the week. However I when filtering for cards compatible with “AMD Ryzen 7040 Series” in the marketplace the USB C expansion is filtered out.
On further checking the SKU numbers it appears the one USB C expansion card I got with my initial order is a different SKU to the one listed in the marketplace.
- SKU in store: FRACCCBZ01
- SKU in existing card: FRACCKBZ01
This implies there are different models of the USB C expansion cards but I can’t find anything on the difference between the SKUs or the same SKU as the card I already have on the marketplace.
Does anyone have any suggestions/answers for this behaviour?
Should I just get the one listed in the store anyway?
They’re functionally identical. I bought another when I upgraded to the amd board and it works fine.
As far as I know, the Framework team had to update the type C expansion cards for the FW 16 model.
The old ones were designed for 100W on the power lines via USB-PD, while the FW 16 requires testing and certification for 240W for the new USB-PD-EPR standard it uses.
Higher voltages (48V vs 20V) require better insulation and shielding against electromagnetic interference from the power lines.
