I got my framework with AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840U today. I assembled it and installed Ubuntu 22.04 on it but it crashes on the login screen. I checked the BIOS and I have 3.02 so I figured I needed to update to 3.03. I tried to do the UEFI shell update following the instructions here but when I boot from the drive I get a grub terminal and startup.nsh doesn’t appear to run automatically. I also tried to install fedora39 and update the bios through fwupdmgr but I get this error “Failed to connect to daemon: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.fwupd: Timeout was reached” when I run fwupdmgr refresh.

I’m running out of stuff to try any help would be appreciated.

I was running into the exact same issue as you just earlier.

As the other comments have said, disable secure boot and try again (also remember to follow the battery instructions for being less than 100% charged before plugging in to update). I personally ended up going the USB route which works as well—download the EFI update and boot from disk in F12 menu just like when installing Fedora/Ubuntu.
