You’re as good as your record but I’m convinced that if we had a coach like Tomlin or even MCDC or McDaniel, there’s a couple more wins by this point. We do need to keep improving the roster talent level, but I think there’s notable underperformance in the scheming and coaching.

Yeah I’m with you. I think good coaching gets us wins in the first two games of the season against GB and TB. Those 2 games are some of the most inexcusable displays of horrendous coaching I’ve ever seen. On their best day GB and TB are mediocre teams. Our gameplan in both of those weeks - on both sides of the ball - was an absolute mess. I don’t think there was anything we were gonna do to beat KC no matter who was coaching (although it probably would have been less of an embarrassment). Then the Denver loss again came down to horrific coaching and playcalling (again on both sides of the ball) in the second half.

Think about how different we’d feel about this team even if we had just won one of those first two extremely winnable games against GB/TB and hung on for a win against Denver. Starting the season 2-2 or maybe even 3-1 would have had this fanbase buzzing, and instead we got 0-4 and another season of doom and gloom.

There’s no dispute that we are nowhere close to a super bowl caliber roster. And the more recent losses are tough to pin solely on the coaching when we’ve had to throw our rookie QB out there. But with the soft schedule we’ve played thus far, a competent coaching staff should have had this team at 4-5 at the very least. 2-7 against this competition is inexcusable.
