Those aren’t Airs and are not M3s. I’ve seen this video. All it proves is 16GB is better.

Just a reminder that macs use swap memory with SSD which is why we don’t see much of a difference. What’s the drawback? The fact that all SSDs have a rated TBW, i.e. the amount of bytes you can write on it before it starts failing. Granted SSDs in macs have a good rating but you are just compromising the health of your SSD in order to get similar performance.

Lol Alex is not an AI developer by any stretch he himself says that. Mac’s are good for llama.cpp or other ggml or coreML inference not for training absolutely

That’s why it doesn’t make sense in Europe buying 2k € config if it’s not your weekly income. MacBook Air should remain entry point laptop sitting under or around 1k $ with 8/512 or 16/256 and that’s it. Otherwise it’s no brainier to get windows for 50% of the price if you’re not professional.

Hold up hold up hold up

On boot, it’s using 4GB ram? That’s half the base ram consumed, doing nothing at all. And this guy expects us to believe he’s running virtual machines on the 8GB model?

    Worthless video, downvote.

Sorry but 8GB and only one external display support is fucking absurd for a £1600 laptop. Remember when apple said “oopsie, we’re working on fixing the display issue” back in M1, and now they’re using “supports two displays” to force users to jump to the Pro?

a thumbs up from me for that good video.

BUT… humans are not logical, and so purchases are far from logical. eg: personally, i would get a bad feeling if i swapped my 8GB 2018 MBA for a brand-new Mac that also has 8GB. i just feel like the number should go up a bit. it’s silly, but that’s a factor for some people.

for £1150, i think Macs should be coming with 16gb base memory. Theres no excuse not to at that price point, as 8gb is very low, considering lower end windows laptops close to the £300 mark come with that amount.
