    It can.
There are several posts like this. I am curious why people want a laptop. Editing is generally time consuming and better on a large screen.
Why wouldn’t a Mac Studio or even high spec mini be better connected to a 30” screen?

It must be a pain on a small screen?

How am I gonna use a 30" screen while on an airplane for 4 hours? 😂 That’s the whole point of having a laptop. Portable…

I mean a lot of people nowadays just have a laptop or a tablet of some sort. Personally I still prefer my desktop and my large desk for comfort. But laptop needs are still required.

At least for me, I need a laptop for editing while traveling since I can’t bring my desktop everywhere I go.

Yes you’ll be good with it. I have the same but it’s a 16 inch version with 32gb ram. 16gb ram might bottleneck your gpu when doing a lot of effects and captions and editing longer videos… so if you can afford to, the 32gb of ram might suit you better. But it just depends on your workflow. I do much of the above but also have a ton of chrome tabs open and lightroom on the side sometimes so it gets messy. Having 32gb ram is perfect for me, I’m mostly always under 25gb memory used and the rest of it being free helps with memory pressure which I like. So up to you really.

I’ll add: if you work with after effects or any other 3d modeling in your videos (blender and etc), then 32gb ram is a must if you want to utilize the power of your entire gpu.

Just for reference, I bought a certified APPLE refurbished from Microcenter 16” M1 Pro 16/512 for 1349 + tax. The store even made sure I had 1 year limited Apple warranty on it and I can still add Apple care to it if I liked.

Are you me? I’ve been looking this exact model for the exact same purpose as you: video editing. Your post helped me. Thanks.

It 100% is but you really should not buy an M1+ device, for several reasons.
    Main reason is this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qbrLiGY4Cg

Then also there is the fact that booting to an external drive isn’t plug and play, which is unacceptable for something you want to call a computer.

Also, they can be iCloud locked just like iPhones, essentially creating a ton of waste

Worst advice man, Base M3 with 8 ram and 512 ssd… for the same price as an M2 PRO and 16ram from apple refurbished you could get better deals at B&H

I have the same and it’s a beast for video editing work (FCP and Premier). I’d look into how much you are paying for it since it’s 2021, may wanna keep an eye on how much you spend.

I suggest you buy the Allstate warranty. I tested everything and it all checked out. People are really hung up on the battery but it’s replaceable but mine is just fine. Buy from a reputable seller and Do your testing

Use proxies and anything can pull off 4k editing. I use M1 Air 8 when I’m not using my Ryzen 1600 16gb with rtx3060. Stay away from complex vfx and it should be ok.

Yeah I mean you really should to get the most out of the 3060. I know the 1600AF is basically a 2600 but there’s a good amount of much better cpus for cheap now. Especially used.

I was running a 2600 with a 6600xt with no problems but something got friend and been too lazy to troubleshoot. Started using my laptop as a desktop. Need to get fixing.
