We are now 24 games into the 85 total regular season games spanning the 5-year life of Deshaun Watson’s record-breaking $230M guaranteed contract. In addition to $230M guaranteed, the Browns depleted their future draft capital by giving up three 1st-round picks, one 3rd-round pick, and two 4th-round picks.
Watson hasn’t played much due to the suspension that was expected, but also due to recent injuries. When he has played, his performance has been sub-par. The timeline below, summarizes his contribution at a high-level.
28% of the $230M contract has led to the following…
- Watson has played in only nine full games out of the first 24 games of his contract. 9 of 13 post-suspension.
- 28% of the $230M has led to the team winning only five games with Watson on the field.
- In Watsons 10 total games, he delivered an above league average ANY/A only two times. Thats right…aside from the fact that he hasn’t played much, 80% of the time he has played, his performance was below average.
The schadenfreude is real.
Imagine, your team has spent the last 1-2 decades in irrelevance. The team finally clawed itself out of the gutter. Finally started landing the right pieces at the right time and things are looking up.
Only for the front office to bet the farm on a QB over a year out from professional play, clearly wasn’t keeping himself up to par, AND WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF BEING ACCUSED OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT BY 26 WOMEN.
It’s the most Browns thing to ever happen.
Whichever crew did the Manziel documentary must be licking their lips over getting a Watson documentary underway.
I would like to say this is a really nice graph.
Just curious about how you defined “average” in this case - league average that week, for the season thus far? Not that I’m looking for a reason to defend Watson, I hope he trips and shits his pants the next time he takes a snap. Just wondering, though.
This will be fun to keep up with. Can’t wait to see how it ends.
It’s not over until I see a Browns jersey with all the bust QBs listed on the back and Watson at the end.
It’s thing like this that illuminates our values
What do we think Cleveland’s record/outlook would be with Russ?
Not a very strong quarter. Let’s see how Q2 goes you guys.
Screw Watson, and the browns for enabling him.
Couldn’t happen to better people all around.
Saw the title and knew I was in for a JPAnalyst classic. Best content in this sub
$230 million guarantees AND all of those draft picks.
What the hell were the Browns smoking?!
This is going down as not just the worst trade in NFL history, but the worst trade in all of sports history.
Jimmy Haslam was selling that leaded gas.
What desperation to upgrade at QB at all costs does to a mf
Damm I forgot about the picks lmao
