What an absolute buzzkill last night was. It is never fun to lose and we are down our qb1 but when your supposedly improving defense allows 30 points and your offense only puts up a 13 spot against one of the worst defenses in the league, that just drains the battery of hope in a hurry and makes you question the play calling all the more. I would hope there is a stiff litmus test for improvement to bring back Flus and Getsy. Poles looks culpable for the roster but I don’t know how long full rebuilds take with roster strip downs and buildups.
Poles actually came into a great spot as a GM. You can’t put full blame on him as long as we have Fields and haven’t invested a significant pick into a QB. He basically gets a “Second Life” if the team doesn’t pan out around Fields.
For what it’s worth he also seems to be decent at drafting. Braxton Jones was the best rookie tackle last year as a fifth rounder. He has been average and has potential to improve further. Brisker has shown flashes and should become a consistent performer at safety. Darnell Wright was by far the highest pick Poles has made and it looks like a home run. Dexter seems to be breaking out on the DL. Terell Smith was looking like a real steal before he got hurt.
Obviously there have been some bad moves as well. The entire saga of trading Roquan, paying Edmunds seems to be blowing up in out face all over a couple million we got in cap savings. The Claypool trade was bad. The pass rush has been awful again but that was to be expected, can’t improve everything in one off season. Every GM has bad moves though. Howie Roseman is widely considered the best GM in the sport and he took Jalen Reagor over Jefferson and gave Carson Wentz a 9 figure deal. Overall, I am hopeful about Poles.
