I appreciate that Aston has a lot of new stuff to grapple with this year (engine, gearbox, new regs etc.) but I’m still slightly surprised they are seemingly so far behind the development curve given they switched to developing the new car pretty early last year.
Will be interesting to see where they are relative to Cadillac.
I can’t see Aston completing any races at the start of the season. Cadillac will be slow but they have a seemingly decent engine. If they can launch it as well as we’ve seen the Ferrari powered cars can, they might be able to jump places at the start and keep the other cars behind them.
Aston will struggle to get through qualifying and won’t make it past lap 20.
Aston is completely hampered by the Honda engine. If Lance Strolls comments are to believe they’re 4 seconds, yes you read it right 4 seconds, slower than everyone else. Any other problem they might have is almost minuscule compared to the engine problem. Unless they can magically fix their engine they’re guaranteed to end up as the backmarker team and even Cadillac is going to beat them because at least the Ferrari engine works.
Not really surprising. Honda had shutdown their f1 r&d department completely. They are basically starting from scratch. The only thing they did in the last 3 years was basically tech support for Red Bull.

If it turns out the merc engine is the one beat…
