I love a good news story. Japan, China, South Korea, Canada, Europe and all the other countries with declining birth rates and populations are doing more for future generations than the public generally recognize.

A planet in severe ecological overshoot, like we are, can only end in collapse. However, there is a world of difference between a growth at any cost leading to a chaotic collapse, vs a degrowth based, managed reduction of human environmental impacts until our ecological footprint fits earth capacity, then stabilizes. Both dismantle the unsustainable, but only one leaves something of value intact once the dust settles.

The faster we get populations down, the less future generations will have to suffer.

Is wiping ourselves out really the solution to the world’s problems?

I know a lot of lemmy users hate religion but I have more respect for people who marry and have children than I have for someone with a fishy sounding user name.

One good thing about your theory is that a lot of people with political views I despise will refuse to have children, and as a result those political views will drop off along with population decline.

Is a straw man fallacy all you got? Weak. I’d rather you not bother.

I’m willing to give up my car very soon but that’s about it. I’m already living the most minimal lifestyle.
