We’re all different with crying… what kind of things make you cry?

    I’ll just give a few since it’s a very long list for me.

    Too loud? -> Crying

    Try to sleep without my baby blanket? -> Crying and no sleep

    Overstimulated? -> Crying

    Watching/playing something scary? -> Crying

    Just about everything, but more than anything it’s being overcome with emotion for other people.

    Here are some (probably unreasonable) examples:

    Today I cried because I was watching the Black Panthers chairman speak and I’m easily overwhelmed when communities come together to do good. I often cry at rallies or concerts for a similar reason.

    I cried recently because I saw that the author & actors of Heated Rivalry are getting messages from closeted athletes thanking them. I was already crying watching that video because it was the director talking about how proud he was of that scene. Then I cried again later telling my partner about it.

    I cried at New Years last year because I looked outside and became overwhelmed by all the people celebrating.

    I cried when I watched a video about how Indigenous people in Canada fed and supported the Chinese railway workers who were being mistreated (even though this was during a time when they themselves would’ve also been under great duress).

    I cried one time because I dropped my ice cream sundae. I was 20.

    I cried A LOT in a restaurant when I found out a server’s cat (which was our neighbourhood cat) had gotten hit by a car. This one is somewhat reasonable because I loved the shit out of that cat, but to the other servers I probably looked like a psycho because this was not my cat, nor was I close with the server.

    I cry uncontrollably when I think about Bing Bong. Like, I literally can’t watch that movie anymore.

    I cry at normal things too.

    Certain moments in hospital shows like Doc that involve people dying (not all of them). Cried at the end of Stranger Things. ALWAYS cry when singing certain Disney songs, specifically Moana and Frozen (I don’t regularly listen to Let It Go but dammit the waterworks start every time).

    None of this was an issue until I got pregnant with my kid. I knew I was in trouble when I cried during a Tide commercial 😂

    My crying mechanism is all messed up. My dad, whom I loved dearly, passed away recently and I never shed a tear. I’m very sad about it, but the tears just don’t come.

    And yet… even if I have no idea what’s going on, just hearing the sound of someone else crying always sets me off. I empathy cry all the time, at the drop of a hat.

      That happened to me before with my grandma. We were very close and I was devastated she passed but I couldn’t cry about it. But then 7 years later the flood gates opened and I cried every time I thought about her for a while.
