just sharing a quick step-by-step guide on what worked for me at the time of writing (jan 2026) to download audiobooks from mac onto iphone.

this step-by-step guide is for beginners, and is drawing from some comments on other threads from the excellent folks here.

please note - this is just what worked for me. this guide/thread is not officially affiliated with the sub or mods in any way.

also, please don’t ask me any troubleshooting questions; i won’t be able to answer them. although i’ve been torrenting since the good old days of limewire, i’m no pirate on the high seas… more of a ‘commandeering a child’s inflatable in waist-high waters’ kinda girl.

without further ado…

  1. on your iphone, go to the app store and download ‘bookplayer’. it has a purple and white logo.
  2. if you don’t already have a bit-torrent client on your mac, download one via your browser (i like ‘utorrent’ - very simple installation/set-up).
  3. on your browser, go to ‘audiobookbay’. you will need to create an account on the site - i selected ‘torrent download’ account [idk what the others do/are - this is just what i did based on familiarity and vibes]. this takes less than 30 seconds, and just asks for email address, then create a username and password.
  4. once logged in, search for your desired audiobook, and click on the title of the one you want to download.
  5. underneath the synopsis etc, there is a table with the technical details. scroll down in this table, where you will find a link called ‘torrent free download’. [do not click on ‘direct download’ - this opens up some sketchy third-party thing. just ‘torrent free download’ link.]
  6. click on this, and the torrent file will begin to download.
  7. once downloaded, open the torrent file - this will automatically launch your bit-torrent client (or at least, utorrent does).
  8. you’ll get a dialogue box which allows you to select and deselect what you want to download, and the download destination (default is your ‘downloads’ folder on your mac). beginners - just leave everything as is and start the download.
  9. check the progress of the torrent download by navigating to the ‘torrents’ section on the sidebar. make yourself a nice cup of tea while it downloads.
  10. once that’s done, enable airdrop on your iphone and your mac (note: if you’ve been using a VPN, disable this for a sec - this issue got me stuck for ages).
  11. airdrop the audiobook file(s) to your iphone (these files will be the ones ending in .M4B, M4A, MP3, MP4).
  12. on iphone, click on the file once it’s received. it will open in some crappy generic audio player, but should have a bar at the bottom which says ‘open in bookplayer’.
  13. click on this, it will launch bookplayer, click ‘import’ - and voilá! your audiobook is ready to go.

hope this helps. enjoy!

edit: this isn’t necessarily the most sophisticated or efficient method, but is effective, accessible, and beginner-friendly. please note this guide relates to mac and iphone only.
