Connections Puzzle #929 🟪🟦🟪🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟩 🟨🟨🟦🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟦- 🟪 I’ve guessed what it was supposed to be, but have never heard of one of them.
- 🟦 Yeah, no… I couldn’t say I recognize any of these.
- 🟩 Same deal as blue. These are not something I had names for or even though to be things that had names.
- 🟨 Way too specific for my taste. I had a related (very close) idea for the group, but this being yellow just feels off. For me this one is on par with blue.
Today feels way harder than yesterday, most of the things just require specific knowledge instead of common sense or logical construction.
🟨
Being California specific it just gave me too much wiggle room with stoner and foreigner. I even had an idea of movie stereotypes, but to me they all are just generic or at best “American”. With exception of valley girl, I don’t know what stereotype it is and there are more than one valley.
🟩
Ok, fair, you just have to know these specific subgenres. That being said, what’s stoner or buddy supposed to be? I have only a guess for screwball.
🟦
You just have to know band names. If you don’t (like me) I see no way for a connection.
🟪
The only group that felt constructable and even here black forest seems to be just a geographical location.
🟨 - My justification for this collection (after only getting 3/4 at first) is that

they’re all people who will typically live in Los Angeles. Movie Executives because of Hollywood, Valley Girls from the suburbs, Surfers because some parte of the LA metro area are coastal, and Tech Bros because of… Silicon Valley?

Dunno, being an European and not really good on geography (no idea where on the map and what cities constitute California). These things don’t connect that way. Foreigner and stoner are just as likely movie stereotypes to me as the others. From what you listed California feels like an unnecessary specification.
Just to be clear, I’m not trying to just bitch about today’s puzzle. I’m just trying to convey my perspective and be somewhat heard.

🟦🟦🟦🟦Another day where I can’t really see much difference in the difficulty levels.

Like knowing comedy genres is harder than knowing CA stereotypes (most of which I’m guessing people are exposed to through movies anyway). I get that if you don’t know band names that’s one thing but putting black before something like panther and widow, two famous characters from billion dollar film franchises, and then linking up black Friday doesn’t seem like it’d be more difficult than 70s bands. Black forest (cake or otherwise) is maybe an outlier, but again not compared to blue.

Purple by far the easiest today. Blue I caught a couple and worked out the others. Yellow and green definitely the harder ones. Got lucky guesses to get that in two.
