Just thought this was interesting. Someone sent me a link to a Bluesky post (not about Waterfox), and when I looked at the post I was surprised to see Waterfox on the trending sidebar. It is, of course, because of Mozilla’s recent talk about embracing AI.

Hope this turns into more momentum for the project!

I’m not a Firefox or Waterfox user currently (most of my work is done on phone or iPad where the apps are locked to Safari’s web view sadly), but that’s the beauty of open source. Chromium, and thus Google, controls the web. We need other engines to have sway, as well. Hopefully, Waterfox will keep people loyal to Gecko or whatever their engine is now.

Yeah, that’s why I really didn’t want to lose faith in Mozilla for a long time. If Gecko and SpiderMonkey stop being developed, then “web standards” suddenly just means “how Google thinks the web should work.”

I’m a very happy waterfox user and hope the project will continue for a long time to come.

You can install other browsers into iOS now btw, just straight from the app store.

But I don’t think any of the Firefox forks are on it

The other browsers are still stuck using Safari web view as an engine and they don’t allow extensions.
