Hey there, fellow self-hosting enthusiasts!

I’ve been diving deep into the world of self-hosting and am on the hunt for a self-hostable application that can provide me with a personalized music streaming experience, somewhat akin to Spotify or even Tidal in terms of audio quality. However, I’m looking for something more - a system that can learn my music preferences, optimize my server’s storage space, and keep me updated with the latest music releases.

Here’s what I’m searching for:

1. Personalized Music Recommendation: I’d love an application that employs an algorithm or AI to keep track of the music I listen to and add to my favorites. Over time, it should learn my taste and offer music recommendations tailored to my preferences, and download automatically music that could interest me. Think of it as a self-hosted music buddy that always knows what I’d like to listen to next.

2. Automated Music Download: This is where it gets interesting. The application should be capable of automatically downloading the music I frequently listen to or add to my favorites. This feature would help optimize storage on my home server by ensuring that my most-loved tunes are readily available for streaming without the need for wait the downloads.

3. New Music Releases and Playlists: Staying in the loop with the latest music is crucial to me. I’m looking for an application that can provide automatic updates on new music releases and generate playlists based on recently released tracks. Imagine waking up to a playlist of brand-new music perfectly tailored to your taste!

Does such an application exist in the self-hosting universe? I’d greatly appreciate any recommendations or insights you can provide. Whether it’s a single app that covers all these features or a combination of self-hosted tools, I’m eager to explore all possibilities.

Let’s share knowledge and empower each other to create the ultimate self-hosted music streaming experience. Thanks in advance for your input!

If you want to self host such a platform, how should it inform you about new releases? If you haven’t downloaded everything on your server manually beforehand, where should it take the media file from?

Just use the streaming service of your choice. Self hosting music is over.

aven’t downloaded everything on your server manually beforehand, where should it take the media file from?

I thought it could download the db of all the songs which should be available for everyone, then it creates playlists of what could interest you and automatically download them from spotify, deezer, yt…

That is not at all how this works!

songs which should be available for everyone

No commecial song is available “for everyone”, every song has royalties that need to be paid for it to be legal streaming.

automatically download them from spotify, deezer, yt

None of these services support downloads, except in their own app, but then encrypted, so that no other app can use it.

There are some “Playlist curators” see https://routenote.com/blog/best-third-party-spotify-playlist-curators/ for some. But only if you have an account with the service.

Plex and lidarr is about as close as you can get at the moment.

You can add lists on lidarr and have it auto download music.
