I, being someone who works with computers, have had some luck with most of my favorite subs being here already.

Despite that, some of my hobby ones still aren’t here. NFL exists, but it’s the same as nothing so far. Soccer I couldn’t find at first, maybe today it already does? Also, no sign of fantasy football.

I also followed a bunch of History subs, but looks like most people in Lemmy only care about science and technology.

Tell us, what is missing for you?

I’m missing witchesagainstthe patriarchy, mommit, and quilting. Everything else is here and I’m going to get more familiar this weekend and maybe start some groups

Yes but there’s only 7 subscribers and I’m the only post :(

Then again it’s a niche community about a fantasy series, I’m not surprised it doesn’t have much going on yet.

Edit- still getting used to this and my search on jerboa isn’t pulling anything for wheeloftime

See my reply for a clickable link that should work on any instance. I haven’t tested in Jerboa yet. Let me know if it works.

Jerboa is still trying to open it outside of the app for some reason. It’s a different 404 page than last time so some might call it progress.

Edit. Tried the link again and got a 502 bad gateway error

I tried to search for the community from lemmy.ca (that’s the instance you’re on right?) and couldn’t find it. Perhaps lemmy.ca can’t see the community yet. I don’t know. I still don’t know how all this federated stuff works yet, I’ve only been here a couple of days.

Looks like perhaps Jerboa doesn’t have a way to link to communities in a universal way like the website does. Shame, but I’m sure it will come.

I’m going through my backlog rn, recently picked reading back up after college killed my voracious appetite. Currently working through my very first few WH40K books, after that I’ll probably read Dune. I’ve heard good stuff about WoT, how is it? I’ve read some fantasy staples but I’d be lying if I said I was a connoisseur. I just know my teachers in school didn’t like the author.

It’s my favorite fantasy series. I highly recommend it if you like modern fantasy; you’ll notice that a lot of stuff written in the last 20 years is often heavily influenced by it. It’s also complete, so you don’t need to wait for more books to come out

The hardest part with it, frankly, is that book 1 feels very different from the others because the author hadn’t quite gotten his feet under him. It’s also extremely long at 14 total books, each one over 700 pages. But I think it’s well worth it.

WoT fans love the series and can make fun of some of the styling.

WoT detractors have obviously read the series judging by their criticism.

It’s kinda addictive. When it’s good, it’s great. When it’s bad, it’s tolerable.

You really want to know what happens next…and at least you’re not starting it before it has been finished. You didn’t want to live through THOSE years.

Overall, I’m a fan. Its a LOT lighter than Dune, which I also like, but for different reasons.

I’m really pleased by how many are starting anew on Lemmy. I giggled like a little kid when I saw HydroHomies was already up.

Not really. My most visited subs on reddit (fuck spez) were Rimworld, Zomboid, Hunt Showdown and various hobby/profession subs (graphic design, illustration, itap, photography). I’m fairly confident a UX/UI sub will pop up sooner rather than later considering how techie Lemmy’s userbase seems to be. Iirc there is a gaming related comm on beehaw, but the odds those three games will be talked about is rather slim.

Edit: also, Swoleacceptance. Recently got back to the gym due to mental health. Was a gym rat years ago but life got in the way.

I feel you on the mental health getting in the way of the gym. I’ve recently started getting back into share due to improving my mental health and I’m kicking myself for not going back sooner.

I’m hoping some more niche hobby/profession communities will come over soon. If not I may have to start one and that’s a scary thought.

Was going to say, I joined meander.xyz as it seems to have a good mix of tech, science, and environment / nature stuff as well. When I scrolled through it was the instance that most resembled my subreddit list (except for the cats. Is there a cats instance?!)

Tell us, what is missing for you?

Niche anime communities. So far, it’s just Bocchi the Rock that has a separate community from the Anime community in lemmy.ml. I need my Re:Zero, KonoSuba, Kaguya-Sama, Classroom of the Elite, Call of the Night etc. I hope with more people coming in, it would been the flourishing of an entire anime ecosystem here in Reddit (probably one instance for anime solely?)

I created mine at /c/guitars , I’m not sure if the reddit community at large will join though. I’m hesitant to push it anywhere, it feels like sleazy self promotion. I just wanna talk about my hobbies with other hobbyists, and leave all the corporate greed back at reddit.

Nope, not yet, unfortunately. The majority of them either hasn’t migrated here yet, or has a low amount of subscribers. Hopefully, more of them starts migrating here soon.

The ones I frequently browse that I doubt will migrate here are probably r/characterai, r/choiceofgames, and r/hostedgames.

I haven’t seen r/gamedeals and r/livestreamfail here yet, but their amount of subscribers is pretty high compared to the other subreddit I’ve listed, so I think they’ll probably migrate here soon.

But at least the country I live in has made a community here already. The amount of subscribers is still pretty low, but some people in there have been making a few posts and comments recently, so hopefully it gets more active soon.
