I really enjoy the stark beauty in this album, after a few listens I was just getting totally lost in that bright haunting guitar. Marathon in particular is a stand out track to me, the drums sound like a warrior beating his shield to ward off death. Forsaken Tarn, seems to capture in it’s lyrics, some lost soul wondering some desolation, but the music develops this somewhat dissociative brightness and triumphal sound at moments, a really interesting contrast.
I’m strongly tempted to place this in my top 5 albums of the year, it’s nothing groundbreaking, but the drumming and tone here brings something interesting to the table. Let me know your thoughts.
This is definitely in my top 5 for this year!
Yeah it’s not groundbreaking (although I can’t think of many other bands that incorporate ambient elements in the same way, perhaps Longing for Dawn but that’s much bleaker and colder). But the songwriting and execution of the music is damn near perfect.
