In a rambling voice message on Monday, the country’s minister for the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice announced the bizarre new restriction on women’s behaviour.
They hated religion because they were competition for their own personality cult.
So personality cult and the extremism resulting from it could be the actual problem? I get the point of criticizing the adverse effects that organized religion can have, but especially when it comes to that religion the quality of comments usually goes to elementary school level and it’s not because there’s anything special about it except that you can get into a nice circlejerk because criticizing Islam nowadays is as accepted as it was to criticize Judaism 100 years ago. So again, I’m not saying you can’t criticize religion but for the love of it bring some substance to your argument because as of now I don’t see how this would be any contribution whatsoever to a very serious and disturbing development in Afghanistan.
