I’ve had so many cats and not one has ever overfed themselves. I always keep their food bowl full and even give them wet treats but they never get fat. I suppose I’ve been lucky. It really makes me wonder the food people are feeding cats to make them fat.

One of my cats will eat until there is no food. We cannot free feed him. So yeah I can easily see how he can become overweight.

my cat had really bad over-eating issues when he first came to live with me. He had lived in a house with dogs that would get in to the food bowls. He would eat all the food immediately, no matter how much there was. I had to do strict rationing to help him normalize again, and now he free feeds with no problems
