I was at the game today. We really needed that Southampton goal to wake us up. We looked so good in first half but didn’t looked clinical enough in front of goal. Southampton defended corners strangely, their player had their back to the corner focusing on our players. Calafiori is an immense player, he was man of the match by a long way. I love Saka but he seems to pick up that award by default now.
Some of Cala’s touches were just amazing. And his positioning is so good. He really is a cultured, intelligent player. He has Zinchenko’s talent with getting forward into inside channels to squeeze the opposition, but without the defensive frailties.
It was his attitude I loved. If his first touch was off he kept going and made up format in his second touch. His work rate was incredible. He realised on one corner that there were two Southampton defenders in him. So he moved away from the goal and the two defenders followed him out of the 6 yard box to the edge of the penalty box freeing up so much space. That level of intelligence can only helps us
I loved the response to going down and the result. But until they scored it felt like we were stuck in patterns from the past.
Saka with a monster game. They double-teamed him and he still had such a huge impact.
I said this in the match thread, but I’ll say it here too… That Dibbling lad really is a talent. He looked so dangerous for Southampton when he got the ball. I’d be amazed if one of the bigger clubs doesn’t nab him in the next year or two.
You mean Chelsea? 😏😏
I do keep thinking “surely they’ve spent too much now”, and I keep being proved wrong. It’s like a stock market bubble.
I think if Clearlake somehow ousts Boehly maybe they’ll dial it back.
Imagine if they make Todd pay them back for his shit ideas
Ratings later, sorry!
Did not get to watch live but Saka is the heart of the team <3
Thoughts from today:
- Partey could have done better on the first (is hanging out in the 6 but could have been screening the goal) but it’s also a great strike
- I love that we immediately went on the offensive after their goal
- Wow, VAR did a great job with Martinelli’s. I speak relatively, but still. Impeccable line drawing (only a little sarcastic).
