“Years ago now — 15 years ago — I was in Washington doing ‘Meet the Press.’ It was a sunny Sunday and lightning struck at home on a little lake that is outside of our home — not on a lake, a big pond,” Biden said.

“And it hit a wire and came up underneath our home into the heating ducts, air conditioning ducts. And to make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ’67 Corvette and my cat.”

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) – Lightning struck the home of Sen. Joseph Biden, starting a small fire that was contained to the kitchen.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house, but were able to keep the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen, said Cranston Heights Fire Company Chief George Lamborn.

"Luckily, we got it pretty early,‘’ he said. "The fire was under control in 20 minutes.‘’

It’s not a great look, particularly when you recall he has other firefighter involved events to reference

President Joe Biden opened up about the death of his first wife and daughter during remarks at an event honouring firefighters on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Summit on Fire Prevention and Control in the South Court Auditorium of the White House, the president spoke movingly and appreciatively about how first responders saved his sons from the car wreck that killed their mother and sister.
