Hi!

I just finished Outcasts yesterday, it was very good. Lots of solid characters Kinda made me sad at the end one part (not gonna spoil anything).

My favorite Halo book is probably Broken Circle by John Shirley, I love the story of the Ussans. It’s pretty cool how we get to see the perspective of Covenant characters and there are some pretty savage moments. After that, probably Oblivion and Outcasts. Denning is pretty consistently good. My favorite alien race are the sangheili obviously. XD

What’s everyone else’s top picks?

Denning has been killing it with his books, I was really glad they went back to Netherop and didn’t just leave the mysterious civilization stuff hanging.

Halo: Renegades by Kelly Gay is my current favorite because of how many lore threads she managed to pick up and pay off. Also Triniel really fascinated me.

The two audiobooks narrated by Tim Dadabo, the voice of Guilty Spark, are top tier as well.

Kelly is pretty awesome too, definitely! Renegades is up there on my faves list. Rion and team were fun, and I thought the return of a certain game character was neat.

I really need to read some of the books from the last 5 years or so, I’ve heard they’re really good. Fall of Reach was always my favorite, and was an important entryway into sci-fi for me (my mom would not let me read/watch sci-fi growing up, so I had to borrow a friend’s copy back in high school)

I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of space opera/space fantasy that the Forerunner trilogy brought, and while they are controversial, I quite enjoyed some of the plots in the Kilo-Five Trilogy. I think sci-fi is at it’s best when grappling with political and ethical issues, even if the analysis in Kilo-Five is a bit basic.

Honestly, I think some of Halo’s best stories are in their short story collections. Loved most of the ones in Halo Mythos, and the stories Haruspis has made since joining 343 are super engaging.
