Eh. I’m really not a Linus fan but this doesn’t seem a big deal. They had a perfectly good interaction and they left on good terms. At no point was there any call or implication that the guy should get harassed. I also think that’s as gracious a response as you could ask. If the post is legit, I get why the Dad would be that way, but it doesn’t seem at all fair to blame Linus for anything there.

Jesus Christ. That post has very low engagment for how grave the content is. I just saw two top level comments, one from LInus and another deleted one.

Also what is the recent Linus controversy? I’m kind of out of the loop

In broad terms: small (think 2 guys in a garage) company sends them a prototype of their new tech. LTT doesn’t properly use or test it in their review and due to that creates an unjustly negative review of the product. Then LTT mistakenly auctions it off for charity at their event without the consent of the company. A different YouTuber calls them out on both improper testing and their sale of this prototype. After that video goes live, LTT reaches out to the company and offers to reimburse them for the prototype.

But crucially, Linus’ response today suggested that reimbursement was already done and dusted, which was ostensibly not the case. As such I think a lot of people have lost trust in Linus specifically.

What’s nuts is that he recently stepped down as CEO to focus on the video content. This would’ve been a great opportunity to stfu and let the new CEO handle communication. Instead his statement yesterday he acted like he was the victim

What’s also crazy is that he turned down a large acquisition offer. If he took it and the same events happened, people would be at least blaming the acquiring company a bit and now it’s all on Linus and Linus alone

Yeah, I thought about this today. I expect that the new CEO is not happy about Linus making a public response to the GN video.
