Fueled by climate-warmed ocean waters, Beryl caused severe damage and death in the Caribbean before making landfall in Texas on July 8 and causing widespread flooding and power outages. While Beryl's exceptional development and destructive path received extensive media coverage, national TV news largely failed to connect the storm to climate change, missing another opportunity to inform the public about the links between global warming and extreme weather events.

    Shutting up about it won’t make it go away. Live in your bubble all you want, but it won’t save you from the next tornado barelling down your main street and wrecking whatever podunk town you may live in. Prayer, likewise, will not help you.

    Deny reality all you want, but it will be rough when you’re eventually confronted with the cold hard facts when they smack you right the face at 90 miles an hour.
