Russia made its final preparations on Thursday for the launch of its first lunar landing spacecraft in 47 years as it races to be the first power to make a soft landing on the south pole of the moon which may hold significant deposits of water ice.
When Russia announced its plans for a mission to Mars, they had a press conference with the cosmonauts. At some point, it turned out that the actual plan consisted in establishing a permanent base on the planet but it was not intended for the crew to ever return to earth. One reporter asked the cosmonaut who would be the commander: „Do you seriously intent to spend the rest of your life in a hopeless, toxic wasteland?“
The cosmonaut answered quickly: „No! That’s why we going to Mars.“
