More than half of 11-15 year old girls using Instagram and Snapchat in the United States have been contacted by strangers in a way that made them feel uncomfortable, according to a report by Common Sense Media, a nonprofit organization that reviews and provides ratings for media and technology in order to safeguard children.

What I saw when I was on Facebook is that it would feed me a constant stream of notifications showing some pretty girl who had absolutely nothing to do with me and say “do you know this person?”

The social media companies know exactly what they’re doing and it’s scummy as hell.

I’m not talking about people connecting to me, I’m talking about people facebook thought I should see through notifications.

Talked to a couple of them and it’s like “Hey, is there any reason on earth why I should know you?” and they’re like “No…”

Because of course not. Facebook just wants to drive engagement and thinks showing me a carousel of pretty girls will do it.
