If you go onto your user profile page, and scroll all the way to the right, there is a section called “reputation”.

What is it, and how does it work?

Is it like the “karma” system that Reddit uses?

Kinda like karma, it’s the culmination of downvotes (reduces) and boosts. Much easier to get downvotes than boosts though. Idk why the upvotes (favorites) don’t count. Maybe that will be a change soon

Right now the thing with boosts is unintended behavior, the only reason that it’s not getting fixed yet is there are a lot more urgent things to be done, like preventing the servers from crashing and burning under the new load. Also please consider buying ernest a coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kbin

Yeah… I’ve taken to self boosting just to keep my reputation above zero even though I’m like 100 upvotes to 2 downvotes. Probably doesn’t matter but like… having negative rep really bugged me.

      Oh, good to know, thanks!

Definitely weird that upvotes don’t get factored in, though. I would have expected them to count, rather than the boost (which I thought was a pay-to-promote system like Tumblr’s blaze).

I get no boosts, mostly upvotes, but it only shows my one downvote ;p Help, I’m being attacked!

It does seem like a minimal issue compared to the rest. Hopefully it’ll be tweaked soon enough!

Yeah kinda annoyed at how it’s boosts minus downvotes, not upvotes minus downvotes, which I think just about everyone expects it to be.

@techno156 I’m glad you asked this. I wasn’t sure how this worked either. Good to know it’s boosts and downvotes. I wonder what the logic was behind that. I guess receiving a boost is a stronger indication of quality content, but I dont feel that upvotes should be ignored in that calculation

I saw in another comment that it’s because of a last minute change for Lemmy compatibility. Apparently, /kbin originally used boosts as its upvote system, but this was changed so that kbin/Lemmy would communicate upvotes in the same way. Some of the /kbin interface is still set up to use boosts instead of upvotes. Since it doesn’t break anything other than hearts fixing it is probably a low priority for now.
