I wonder if he thought the customer was the owner and was getting it back to retrieve the stolen info. He got his phone out instead of just hiding the skimmer at least.
This was my first thought but the way he instantly reacted with a i gotta call police after taking a first proper look at it makes me give benefit of doubt.
I now think the grab might have been more of a customer is ripping part of our equipment reflex. And then it dawned what he was actually dealing with.
Nope. He would have looked at the original, either in a moment of confusion, looking from the skimmer to the original, or to make sure the original had no damage.
His reaction was unmistakably that of someone who 100% knew what to expect, and the calling the police line was just a gut reaction to feign ignorance and take control of the situation.
One of my first jobs was at a gas station. The lady who hired me was in shit with the company because she hired some dude and he was skimming peoples CCs. They found out, fired him but she did zero background check on the guy. Came back to bite her. I was his replacement
