I see there’s a “Spicy BBH Challenge” at Mãi Mãi Viet Street Kitchen (14221 23 Ave NW - Shoppes Of Terwillegar Gardens at Rabbit Hill Road NW and 23 Ave NW).

The image says “30 minutes” but the Edmonton Food Bank web site says “45 minutes”. The challenge is to eat one bowl of spicy bún bò huế (beef noodle soup, essentially pho) within that time, and if successful, one gets “eternal glory on their “Wall Of Flame”” and they will cover the cost of the meal and a $10 donation to Edmonton’s Food Bank in one’s name.

I’m not affiliated with Mãi Mãi Viet Street Kitchen nor the Edmonton Food Bank. I’m just curious if anyone has done this.

I like spicy food, I’m pretty good with hot sauces based on the Apollo Pepper and the Carolina Reaper and I often enjoy spicy pho. So I don’t think I’ll have an issue with the heat (unless I’m wrong?), I’m just wondering about the portion size. I think I could do it if it’s not much bigger than a typical large bowl of pho. Though I generally eat quickly, I haven’t done an actual food challenge before, and don’t usually like the idea of stuffing myself if the time limit is strict. But I’m considering this. Has anyone done this? Is there anything else I should know about this challenge?

EDIT: I called the restaurant. The lady there said it is actually 30 minutes, the entire meal (including soup) has to be consumed, and the bowl is the same large bowl that they have. She doesn’t know if/when this challenge will stop running.
