We are Leftypedia, a socialist and left-wing online encyclopedia.
If you’re a leftist of any kind or considering becoming one, you’ve probably found truthful information about socialist ideologies and movements from websites like Wikipedia lacking at best.
These days, genuine leftist ideology can be hard to get into and learn about, between the toxic culture that dominates online leftist spaces and the many issues faced by even offline socialist organizations. Reading theory-dense works from Marx can be hard at first, and the easily-accessible guides targeted at beginners often don’t even understand the work their talking about themselves!
So, what’s the solution?
A dedicated socialist resource, like Leftypedia.
We aspire for new leftists to be given an environment where original discourse is encouraged on top of sourced and informative encyclopedic articles
Since our beginning in 2019, we have hundreds of articles, dozens of editors, and a growing community and base of content.
We’re well on our way of reaching our goals, and welcome any leftist or incoming-leftist to view and editor our articles, carry out original discourse, and so on!
Our Discord server (Both editors and non-editors are welcome!)
Questions about us? Feel free to ask them here or on the links provided above!
ProleWiki admin and founder here
It’s wonderful to see that Leftypedia is picking up again! Leftypedia is what inspired ProleWiki in the first place, before it went down for a while. I wish all the best in your work, and hope you’re able to bring more people to edit the site over time.
For those who will say that since ProleWiki is there, there’s no need for Leftypedia, or something like that, I profoundly disagree. To have more leftist wikis is always good, we need to be more present online in every form possible. But ProleWiki is specifically a Marxist-Leninist wiki, we are strict and don’t allow other “strands” of leftist ideology.
To have a wiki dedicated to other leftist thoughts can be very useful because our wiki may scare off those leftists more affected by anti-communist propaganda. And through their participation in Leftypedia and they can be eventually educated towards a more radical thought.
P.S. @Parabola@lemmy.ml I love Parabola too! In fact, I even created the image you use in your profile. Unfortunately, I no longer use it because I depend on some proprietary software to do some work, but I intend on using it if FOSS substitutes ever appear. It was the most stable system I ever used in my life, so I get really happy that others use it too
Hello!
Thanks for your feedback. We’re happy to see other left-wing projects too! Although we have our differences, we’re all working for the people and workers’ movement in the end. We respect your project as much as you respect ours.
Parabola GNU/Linux-libre is a great distro. I love Arch Linux in general, and Parabola takes all of that and puts it under the totally free Linux-libre kernel. Too bad I’ve had to use main-line Arch and other OSes on some of my work machines due to software issues, but I’m hopeful more libre and GNU/Linux alternatives can be developed in the future.
Thanks!
