Not like there is a lot of work, or reports. You are all a good bunch, plus the admin team seems to get to most of the reports before I do, making me more or less useless!
So I’m thinking of bringing on someone else, this way I cant be bias, well less chance anyways, and the guy who got me to mod seems to have gone away, never to be found again. Hope hes safe!
But yeah, I think one person being a mod with a community this large is not right. How do you all want me to pick the next superhero mod here? Eeny, meeny, miny, moe seems like a great idea to me, but I’m a stoner.
Thoughts?
I believe you should go with someone who really wants it first. Then look at their activity on Lemmy, are they a mod for other instances/communities, how much free time do they have etc.
Make a clearer choice then.
Not that I wouldn’t be interested in the position but I work night shifts and most threads are posted during the day, making me kind of useless/really late on problematic stuff.
That wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing schedule-wise, if North America days are covered by OP and you’re covering North America nights then that gives better overall coverage.

pretty cool how the tiered moderation of Lemmy works
I think you should be a bit careful… Ideally active community members with an interest and a fairly level headed post/comment history. Some people want that “power” too much 😅
Also consider finding one or more people that have time zones different from yours.
So far the communities I’ve moderated have all been pretty small (<1000) and there’s not much of anything in terms of reports. It would be great if some folks that moderate other large communities showed up and talked about how they’ve grown their moderation team.
Generally the best option is to first see who wants to mod, then check to see if they are a good fit. Doesn’t always weed out the bad ones, but it generally works.
Can’t say I’m for the idea of modding (I’ve done my time, and it was not worth the time and work), but I can’t say that I’m necessarily against it either. Feels like a debt I owe to the Lemmy community, somehow.
Anyways, if nobody else is willing, I might consider being a mod
I’d nominate the one user that posts here the most, alessandro@lemmy.ca
Please don’t,
I just blocked that guy for spamming my feed…“Number of comments” is a terrible indicator of who should be a mod.
