Before I spend money (15 eur is not cheap, but is worth it for this app, imo), I want to know if it’s not just a visual ad removal but the data collection and all the tracking gets actually disabled. I don’t want to pay for ad removal. I want to pay to keep my data mine.
It says €19 here. (a year!!)
No offence for the dev. But I fucking hate subscription based services.
I really wanted to support the dev and have an ad free experience. But this is imo a bridge too far. I hope many people support him. But count me out… Sorry.
Connect is free and fantastic, and the dev(s) are adding new features regularly. I’m a bit torn, as I loved Sync for Reddit and was happy to give my money again for Sync for Lemmy - just not quite that much of it.
@El_Rocha
It was already ridiculous an hour ago when it was priced at 16€ (compared to $12 everywhere else).
I want to support the app but 23€ in our economy is simply ludicrous.
I bought Sync Pro for that… almost 10 years ago. IMO a polished Lemmy app with that many years of experience and tune-up is worth more than the original price.
Max €10 imo. Even that is on the high side just to remove ads. But that is something I would be willing to pay. And only because I know it is a good app. New customers will never even pay €10.
This is exactly why I haven’t downloaded it - I was looking forward to Sync for Lemmy, and I’ve been using Connect in the meantime. But Connect doesn’t collect any data, according to Google Play, and Sync does. I’m on the fence about paying to keep my data my own, at this point.
Except for data shared in the moments before I purchase, sure. Which is what leaves me on the fence, to be honest. Hopefully there will be more info about how this is handled soon.
I wish I could, but I’m in the US. And on the Google Play store it says data can’t be deleted, so I’m assuming that since I’m not in the EU, there will be no leniency for me. The more I think about it, the less I want to deal with it, personally. With that being said, I recognize that not everyone will agree with me, and of course that’s perfectly fine.

There is a new option to remove ads forever for 15. No subscriptions.
Perfect. This solves my only issue.
That was many people’s only issue :)
Where is this new option?
On beta 25 it’s on the drawer, between Settings and Get Ultra menus. A new Remove ads button
It’s £19 here.
Welp, for me in Portugal it shows up as 23€…
I remember the good days when I bought Sync Pro for 2,69€…
I’m seeing AUD$
35$33.99.I paid AUD$1.91 ten years ago for “reddit sync pro” (I believe it was on sale).
I was expecting to pay around $10-$15 to block ads, so this is a bit of a shock.
Are you sure you are on beta 25? It shows me 15 eur when clicking “remove ads”, not get ultra
I didn’t see the option at all last night. This morning the app updated, and now I see the remove ads option.
An insane amount of money to remove ads. Guess I’m going to keep using Liftoff.

Maybe give Summit a try. It’s similar to Sync, but ad free.
Damn, kangaroo dollars are cheap…
It’s showing £18.99 for me, which is a lot. I thought it was going to be like £2.99!

Exactly. I hope this is an experimental price. Otherwise, I’ll have to drop this app.
I’m on the same boat here, bought pro at the time was would gladly buy the ad removal here but 23€ is just a big no.

Caralho! Are you clicking Get Ultra or Remove Ads?
Remove ads… Ultra is 18,99€ per year.
Portugal tax then, I guess
Yep, the ad sdk doesn’t even initialize if you’ve paid to remove ads
How do you know? You aren’t lj :)

If the ads sdk is not initialized for the paid version, and no data is collected, then there is no issue.

Sure, but you can do a GDPR request to delete it, if you are an EU resident

It’s complicated due to newer play store policies
Google again. Of course.
