Despite removing comments hours previously, I’m getting complaints from sync users that they’re still seeing the spam bots that have plagued the lemmy today.
This leads me to believe that sync for lemmy fails to handle federated comment removals (note: some instances, those running kbin or mbin don’t handle them at all)
Can this be added to ensure that when a mod removes a comment, the comment isn’t seen by sync users?
Thanks
After seeing that spammer today I think I might need to revisit this
Thanks.
Sync knows the comments are deleted - there’s a trash bin icon there
I saw a comment mentioning that you’ll see certain types of deleted comments if you’re a moderator of any community, probably that is the case here but only lj would know…
Complaints I’m seeing aren’t from a mod, so it’s not that.
Could be something like caching the comment after I’ve done the removal.
I don’t think it’s Sync.
On this thread there is some deleted comments that show up for me both in Sync and in Connect.
Doesn’t sync just load the content from the server? How does it look on the webpage? I.e. problem.user.instance/c/community@some.other.instance
It varies by server.
Some show ‘removed by moderator’: https://lemmy.world/post/13392555
Some servers don’t show them at all: https://fedia.io/m/climate@slrpnk.net/t/640012/The-Boeing-737-Max-was-marketed-as-eco-friendly-But-marketing
The people I’m aware of having problems are using sync on lemmy.world
FWIW I am on lemmy.world, am not a moderator, and have been seeing the spam comments with the trash and ban icons.
Might be an issue with cached comments, not everything happens in real time to reduce server load, so there could be a disparity.
Could definitely be, though the complaints came in more than an hour after the comments were removed.
