I was the same, but I have settled on zim-wiki, it does all I want it to do, and best thing is everything is in plaintext files. (That and simple pen-and-paper bullet journal.)

Don’t know your use case or requirements so not sure if it will suit you, but I think it The One for me (using it for a few years now).
