Tree Huggers@slrpnk.net•Nitrogen may turbocharge regrowth in young tropical forest treesEnglish
2·4 小时前Alley cropping with Inga edulis or a similar leguminous tree for mulch would work very well as part of a syntropic approach to pure reforestation or food forests.
Use the best plant for the job. Usually that is a native plant, but not always, especially when growing food. “Some day, people will forget that durians came from Asia.”

Tree Huggers@slrpnk.net•A major agreement to protect the Amazon is falling apart after 20 yearsEnglish
4·2 天前Going forward, there will be “some significant amount of consumers probably worried about the fact that they’re going to be complicit in the destruction of the Amazon rainforest,” said Hurowitz.
In the words of Philip Wollen, we don’t have to bomb it; we can just stop buying it. The animal cruelty industry drives the expansion of soya plantations in the Amazon. Live vegan and grow your own veganic permaculture food forest using syntropic agriculture methods.

Sustainability@piefed.zip•Violence, death and stolen land: people need to know the true cost of an avocadoEnglish
3·7 天前If you want to avoid supporting industrial agriculture’s land-grabbing violence and ecological destruction without sacrificing the nutritional and gustatory marvels of fruits such as these, then growing your own veganic permaculture food forest is the ideal solution.

Community Promo@lemmy.ca•Are there any communities about digital minimalism, dumbphones etc?English
32·12 天前“Dumbphones” are not inherently superior from a privacy perspective if they connect to cell towers. Standard calls and SMS are wide open to eavesdropping.

Sustainability@piefed.zip•‘They’re scared of us now’: how co-investment in a tropical forest saw off loggersEnglish
3·21 天前The reclaiming of Darién national park should help protect one of the region’s largest carbon sinks and the Indigenous groups and many animal species that live there. It also comes as tropical forests across Central America are collapsing.
“Nicaragua is gone. Mexico, Guatemala – everything is going now. If you look from Google Earth we are down to these little green patches. It’s the last 10% of what was there 100 years ago. So if we don’t get it right real soon …” Morgan says, trailing off, preferring not to elaborate on the implications of losing the greatest intact rainforest north of the Amazon.
Chilling. Truly a “guys, I think we’re fucked” thought.

2·21 天前Its thorny protective canopy supports biodiversity and helps alleviate flooding risks from summer thunder-showers through effective water uptake.
Diverse trees also provide benefits to the garden because different species have different root architecture, which improves the health and structure of the soil.
layered canopies, ranging from ground covers to herbaceous perennials, shrubs and trees of various sizes, which has the benefit of maximising species diversity in limited spaces, and providing protective benefits against climate extremes (hot and cold) offered by this approach.

7·28 天前I second the recommendation of neem oil spray if it’s practical to grow/obtain in your area. Just wash the fruits before eating. Otherwise you might consider a spray made from fermented tobacco leaves, and same thing, wash thoroughly before eating.

51·1 个月前Humans have affected the climate more than the data since 1850 would suggest. Humans were cutting and burning forests for thousands of years before the industrial revolution, leading to desertification of entire regions. All of that deforestation with its associated GHG emissions undoubtedly has influenced how climate change has proceeded to this day.

3·1 个月前Of course humans have affected the climate more than the data since 1850 would suggest. Humans were cutting and burning forests for thousands of years before the industrial revolution, leading to desertification of entire regions. All of that deforestation and its associated emissions of carbon dioxide undoubtedly has influenced how climate change has proceeded to this day.

And let’s not forget the massive amount of deforestation for growing the feed crops that they use. It’s an ecological catastrophe at every level.
