I want this to be true but with the “3 days later” thing and the fact they literally had just finished hiring a new 80-90k/y analyst is pretty crazy.
This is a great explanation and I hope it’s true. It just feels… so weird how no reason could even be given, especially if it was budgetary. One of my coworkers actually graduates this year, so if someone needed to be fired… I mean… that’s a few months away anyways. I know it doesn’t explain anything, since maybe even with that person gone then 4 people is already too much. This is probably where I should stop speculating. Heh. It might just be budgetary. Who knows. I just detected too much disappointment from their voice when I got the news. I don’t know.
Thanks for your words. This isn’t my first time getting reprimanded so I’m trying to be a bit stronger when it comes to getting back on my feet. I’m certainly going to ask for a reference from my supervisor (he liked me). At the end of the day, I still got something out of these last 5 months. I just wish it could’ve been in better graces.
As for my speculation, I don’t think anyone has ever actually been “fired” at my job, most are told they can take a rec credit over the summer to keep working. So—that is why I am assuming the reason to be so. It is also just really hard to not land on that assumption when I’ve heard those same heavy words been said before in the same mellow and frail tone.
Or maybe not. You’re right that I shouldn’t think about it too much, but thats kinda why I wrote this whole post.
Haha yeah the asbestos thing was stupid. My direct supervisor probably thought I was a loony.

981·6 days agoThe clean-room approach created a novel legal puzzle. Gergely Orosz (The Pragmatic Engineer) observed that Anthropic faces a dilemma: a Python rewrite constitutes a new creative work potentially outside DMCA reach. If Anthropic claims the AI-generated transformative rewrite infringes copyright, it could undermine their own defense in training-data copyright cases - the same argument that AI-generated outputs from copyrighted inputs constitute fair use.
The only moral justification for an AI rewrite. Love it.

Baldurs Gate 3. When I first saw it on the Fitgirl website I thought it was boring DnD stuff. A month ago I decided to try it out and have been hooked on it like crack.

3·11 days agoI thought about it but it’s a shame/anxiety thing for me. I have a brittle social support network and few real connections besides the ones my parents made for me or the ones I made accidentally. And I’ve actually kinda broken a few of them through ‘no contact,’ so it would really just be exacerbated at this point…
