And most of it was within a year or two. All happened at the same time around 2020. Real fast

Metroidvanias•GRIME II, the followup to the popular Lovecraftian metroidvania, has announced a March 31 release date for PC.
2·1 month agoSame. I respected it, but didn’t get past something like the 4th boss and never came back. But people love that game

Metroidvanias•I'm sure you already know, but it's out — Hollow Knight: Silksong, a metroidvania about gross bugs, is out on all major platforms (I guess Playstation is coming…)
4·7 months agoI really liked that Nine Sols had an difficulty slider. It was much harder for me than Hollow Knight, but I could adjust the slider instead of banging my head against the wall. I sometimes can enjoy the satisfaction of completing something tough, but I have limited time to play games and it’s getting trickier with a young child.

Metroidvanias•Hollow Knight: Silksong, a metroidvania that some people might be excited about, is announced for a September 4th 2025 release date on all major platforms.
1·7 months ago😏 just a little…
I have a 15-month-old, so I’m going to hire a full time au-pair so I can play this game.

Metroidvanias•Bolt & Whalington, a unique metroidvania with a "meta" mechanic that rewrites the game, is announced for PC with an unknown release window
31·9 months agoThat’s my description. The mechanic is something I haven’t heard of before. It may be gimmicky, but we’ll see…

Metroidvanias•Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, the sequel to the Castlevania-inspired metroidvania hit, is announced for PS5 with co-op in 2026
2·10 months agoIt seems like it, but isn’t crystal clear. The Steam listing has “online co-op” listed, but Artplay doesn’t talk about it in their press. I’ve seen other places highlight it, but they could be mistaken.

Metroidvanias•Supraworld, a First-Person-Puzzle-Metroidvania sequel to Supraland, is announced for PC
1·10 months agoThanks! How are you viewing it when you use Lemmy? In a browser? Voyager? Curious as I don’t think playback is consistent across platforms.

Metroidvanias•The Last Vanguard, a toon-styled metroidvania, announces it's coming out of Steam Early Access and will release on PC on May 15
1·11 months agoThe Early Access reviews are “mostly positive”, so here’s to hoping they iron out the kinks. I like the style, but will be cautiously optimistic until I see the final reviews.

Metroidvanias•Twilight Monk, an RPG metroidvania is out today on PC and Switch with pretty good reviews
4·1 year agoLast year felt like the best year for releases, and this year has a ton of bangers already and may end up beating 2024.
There are some great releases on the horizon. I’m about to post about the new Metroid and the dystopian Pac-Man metroidvania.
Good times.

Metroidvanias•New York Times Interactive Feature — Why We Love to Get Lost in Games: The Enduring Appeal of Metroidvanias
5·1 year agoI was surprised by the focus on Ultros, but not Animal Well. That game is already one of the genre’s hallmarks. I liked Ultros, but know it’s not for everyone. Animal Well isn’t as traditional an entry, but a smash hit.

Metroidvanias•Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, the popular 5th entry in the metroidvania series, is releasing on consoles on Feb. 6th
1·1 year agoYeeeaaahhh…🧐 I think that snake isn’t alone. Some of the other screenshots feature some mamajamas.
Out of curiosity, if someone posts a YouTube link and you auto play the video, what gets shared with YouTube?
I’d love Apollo-level inline video playing.
Keep up the great work!

Metroidvanias•Oirbo, an action-platformer metroidvania, is coming out of Steam Early Access and releasing on PC on Feb. 10.
1·1 year agoYeah, I’ll definitely wait to see the reviews, but the early access feedback is positive, but not glowing. I did see some reviews mention that it didn’t really add much to the genre, but was still fun.

Thanks for posting!
