Metroidvanias•Maseylia: Echoes of the Past, a 3D metroidvania inspired by the French artist Moebius, has announced a release date for June 19, 2026 on PC
3·3 months ago🤷🏼♂️ I hadn’t heard that. Not as common, but still counts in a lot of people’s eyes. Beyond the last Metroid Prime, the last big ones I remember hearing about were Control or Jedi: Survivor

Metroidvanias•This Is Fine: Maximum Cope, a metroidvania based on a meme, is out now on all major platforms
3·4 months agoReading comments, people who’ve played the demo say it’s solid, but nothing great.

Metroidvanias•Tombwater, a horror-western metroidvania, is out now on PC
2·5 months agoI’d add that some people delineate between the two with the idea that Zelda-likes have dungeons and metroidvanias don’t.

Metroidvanias•Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland, a metroidvania based on the comics of Winsor McCay, is out now on PC (Switch release soon)English
1·5 months agoWhat’s wild is that this is only the first metroidvania Little Nemo game that’s been in the works: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2229030/Little_Nemo_and_the_Nightmare_Fiends/

Metroidvanias•Tombwater, a horror-western metroidvania, is out now on PC
4·5 months agoThe devs label it as a metroidvania, and a lot of reviews mention it as a Zelda-like, but people who’ve played it say it straddles an already thin line between the genres.

Metroidvanias•GRIME II, the followup to the popular Lovecraftian metroidvania, is out now on PC, Playstation, and Xbox to positive reviews
2·5 months agoSame with me on Grime 1.
In my opinion, avoid “MÍO: Memories in Orbit” if you’re not a fan of platforming. I had to avoid some pretty big areas of that game for how seriously hard some of the platforming challenges were.

Metroidvanias•GRIME II, the followup to the popular Lovecraftian metroidvania, is out now on PC, Playstation, and Xbox to positive reviews
1·5 months agoThe first Grime was 2021, so 3 years prior to PoP. But playing both, they play very differently and didn’t feel visually similar. I can see what you’re saying in the lighting and shaders.
There are demos for both Grime games, so it could be a good way to get a feel for them

And most of it was within a year or two. All happened at the same time around 2020. Real fast

2·7 months agoSame. I respected it, but didn’t get past something like the 4th boss and never came back. But people love that game

Metroidvanias•I'm sure you already know, but it's out — Hollow Knight: Silksong, a metroidvania about gross bugs, is out on all major platforms (I guess Playstation is coming…)
4·1 year agoI really liked that Nine Sols had an difficulty slider. It was much harder for me than Hollow Knight, but I could adjust the slider instead of banging my head against the wall. I sometimes can enjoy the satisfaction of completing something tough, but I have limited time to play games and it’s getting trickier with a young child.

Metroidvanias•Hollow Knight: Silksong, a metroidvania that some people might be excited about, is announced for a September 4th 2025 release date on all major platforms.

I have a 15-month-old, so I’m going to hire a full time au-pair so I can play this game.

Metroidvanias•Bolt & Whalington, a unique metroidvania with a "meta" mechanic that rewrites the game, is announced for PC with an unknown release window
31·1 year agoThat’s my description. The mechanic is something I haven’t heard of before. It may be gimmicky, but we’ll see…

You’re not wrong, but it’s been almost a decade of a-little-too-heavy-inspired by metroidvanias of Hollow Knight’s style and mechanics. It’s wild how influential those 2 games are and how much devs struggle to break free of it. That said, I still love a lot of these games.
