  • I attended schools that had pretty abysmal math teachers and curriculums. When I eventually slogged my way to the upper level math courses in college for an engineering degree, I was so frustrated with my early education. I feel that so many years were wasted going over the basics, and in reality kids are way more capable of grasping math concepts at a young age than the US education system normally allows for.

Like this article states, we don’t need to be teaching calculus in middle school. But there are principles and general concepts that can begin much earlier. I find a lot of kids now hate math by high school, and I feel strongly that is because we as a society are dramatic about the ‘difficult high school courses’. With good teachers, it is entirely possible to introduce concepts at a younger age so that the jump from learning a number line to algebra, geometry and calculus doesn’t feel so massive.

  • I have noticed the general public is now very tolerant of sweet drinks. I know that is not the only problem. I was never allowed soda or coffee or sweet tea growing up, so don’t have much of a tolerance for them now. But when I try popular coffees (pumpkin spice this or vanilla chai that) or cocktails at most restaurants, I am surprised that people don’t send them back and ask for less sweetener.

As an infrequent treat, I can understand it. But if you are drinking that much sugar on a daily basis, it must seriously screw with your system. I am sure lots of people are drinking a huge amount of calories and don’t register how different that is from past generations.

  • It’s not that I expected much. But it honestly feels like his picks are made up of people who elbowed their way to the front of the line to suck his dick and sing his praises. Not one seems to have merited the position they are now going to hold.

It makes me so disillusioned with the government. I used to feel like public office was held by intelligent, impressive people. I may have disagreed with them, but they at least laid out arguements and had some semblance of a strategy.

I never thought I was anywhere near capable of holding a position like that. Now though, I genuinely feel like if I just shouted the “right” things loudly enough, I could be in the inner circles of our nations government. That prospect is fucking terrifying.
