Fallout@lemmy.world•What build would you like to see me play through Fallout 1 with?English
3·1 day agoEnergy Weapons; sort of weird one. Early game can be really challenging, but as the game progresses, you become much more proficient (I guess this is true on some level of all builds).
I’ve actually never done a full run with a dumb build (just the intro part in FO2).

1·1 day agoI don’t think anyone has any examples (I am personally more into strategy games or open source engines for older games).

Computer RPG Games@lemmy.world•CRPG list I stole and condensed from RedditEnglish
4·1 day agoI think New Vegas is fine if you like RPGs, the 16 year evolution from 2010 to 2016 is a lot less than say from 1994 to 2010.
For whatever reason, I can’t get into RPGs made before 95 or so. I am OK with some pre-1995 releases in other genres (strategy, adventure), but with RPGs the UI is particularly annoying and I also find pre-1995 RPGs tend to be very combat focused (there is a lot of combat in say FO1, but also a lot of conversations and alternative approaches).

2·1 day agoGreat list! Some games that I’ve never heard of!
Shout out to Colony Ship! I just started it today and I am loving it. It’s a great modern evolution of the FO1/FO2/Arcanum formula from the creators of Age of Decadence.
I am also not sure that Morrowing would clarify as “middle of the road” by modern standards. It can be a pretty tough and confusing game if your baseline is Obsidian’s or Bethesda’s recent output.

Not to mention that IMO doesn’t really apply to some nerdy video game discussion.

I mod/curate there too, mainstream CRPGs make up most of the content, but indie CRPGs are definitely covered.

3·3 days agoI am totally good with isometric turn-based RPGs, that’s mostly what I play these days.
That being said, I wouldn’t mind a real sequel to VTMB or even a more RPG-focused Alpha Protocol.

6·3 days agoThat ship has sailed.
That being said, there are lots of good indie RPGs with a similar setting; UnderRail, Atom RPG, Space Wreck.
The biggest issue is that indies struggle with making third-person fully 3D RPGs.

One random one with him that I like (even though it’s not a great movie) is the Desperation, based on the Stephen King novel.

There are many games about managing spaceships (my personal favourite is Star Traders: Frontiers), but I’ve never heard of spaceship management games in a more isolated/long term environment.
This is an interesting concept, curious if this has been explored.
