I know that it’s an unpopular opinion, but I firmly believe that we were at least marginally safer when the USSR was still a superpower acting as a check on American fuckery.

Once the USSR fell, US went masks off on the international stage because they had no reason to pretend to be the good guys anymore.

They convinced all their allies to disarm themselves, and then went full “nice country here…shame if something happened to it” the moment they were the only big dog left.

The world can’t re-arm itself fast enough as far as I’m concerned.

CGI shouldn’t win cinematography or even special effects awards.

Both of those things used to be collaborative skills. Multiple people working together to make a great composition on the screen. (director, cinematographer, set designer, costumer, prop-maker, foley artist, actor, etc…)

A great shot in CGI requires a computer and rendering time. It’s not the same.

If you can do everything with a computer, than none of your special effects are special by definition.

Oh…You’ve got spiderman framed above buildings high in the sky in Into the Spider Verse? Great…cool shot…but took nothing to actually create it.

If you tell me that to get that shot you had professional stunt people doing wire work, a complex camera rig, two helicopters and high-speed camera? THAT is the special in special effect.

Made it in a computer? It’s meaningless.

Fandom is such a toxic concept nowadays.

Do I personally like the show? No. But it’s not for me. I’m old. It’s a new world with new demographics to cater to and new viewers to appeal to.

So it’s perfectly okay that it’s not for me. It’s not as though my trek has vanished. It’s still there whenever I want to watch it. My trek is literally everywhere. Pluto TV, Paramount Plus, or the crap-tonne of DVD’s I’ve collected over the years.

Society has changed, writing styles have changed, audiences have changed. Get over it, people. How come people can’t not watch something while shutting the fuck up about it? Why does your dislike of a property give you the right to make other people’s lives miserable.

I’d bet my life that they happen everywhere in Canada, unfortunately. It’s just that Saskatoon Police are the one’s who got caught because one of their victims (Darrell Night) had the sheer audacity to survive.

Low key one of the features I actually like the most about e/os is that in the App Lounge, you can see precisely which trackers and which permissions are necessary and which are invasive. If you click on that tracker it takes you deeper to see what each tracker is reported to do.

It’s changed the way I actually choose which apps I use on my phone and which apps I use only on my tablet which I’m less concerned with.

Surely…SURELY…someone in that administration was smart enough to snip the wire in big red button knowing that Trump is a lunatic.

nano is usually built in. Adding another one is just redundant if all you’re using it for is editing an occasional config file.

“Silent Majority”

It’s always their go-to when pressed on when they’re called out.

They can’t grasp the idea that their beliefs are really that unpopular so they cling to an idea of a “silent majority” that agrees with them but is either too censored or too bullied to speak up for what they think is the truth.

Sorry buddy, there is no such thing as a “silent majority” quietly agreeing with you but afraid to speak up, you and your illiterate buddies are just assholes and your opinions are shit.

I’m not actually convinced that she actually lost the last one, with Musk’s shenanigans and other jerry-rigging all over the electoral college.

But I generally don’t bother dwelling on conspiracy theories. It is what it is, so we’ll see what happens.

If I’m asked a question like this, my immediate thought is that they’re asking about “My fellow citizens”. I (and I’m guessing a number of others) don’t really think of our political leaders as “regular people”. They’re “The State” and therefore aren’t a part of a poll like this.

Our right and our left in government is bought and paid for by the same billionaires that own the United States.

But on the ground, regular average joe people, both right and left, are generally good in the sense that they just want to mind their own business and live their life. It’s a small, very loud vocal minority on either side that drives division.

I’m not saying she should.

But the “I fucking told you so” campaign strategy might actually be somewhat effective for a certain percentage of swing voters.

I was fine with them cutting out the beginning with the colonists and Newt’s parents, to be honest.

All of that is explained effectively and visually by the marine’s first entering the base and doing their recon, and then later with the revelation that Burke sent them there when Ripley confronts him. The whole first part was redundant because other than Newt they’re only purpose is to tell the audience what we already know.

I am slowly discarding my differentiations between stupid and evil, there’s a different, mysterious third thing that combines both but exists on its own.

Willful Ignorance. Choosing to remain stupid despite access to information.
