Not a million a year of HBOs money. Of his OWN FUCKING MONEY. Oliver is a maniac, and I love him to death. He could set up a gofundme for this and I would gladly contribute.

If people had just believed Anita Hill none of this needed to happen.

Yet Christine Blasey Ford still came forward to tell us about Brett Kavanaugh, and Congress ignored the victim AGAIN.

It’s an election year, as if the republicans would let Biden pick a new candidate just as they didn’t let Obama when Scalia died before an election.

If you’re going to be too afraid to act because the GOP are pulling some bad-faith bullshit, you’re not going to get anything done. They respect displays of strength - give 'em one.

It’s not about fear, it’s about thinking logically.

They have already shown they can simply refuse any nominations during a presidential election year.

In this hypothetical scenario it makes more sense to save the money and only do it after/if Biden wins. Otherwise you’re just wasting millions to hand them a free nomination to appoint to a younger judge who will hold the seat for even longer.

The GOP refusing is only the next step in the chain - Biden backed down for fear of being uncivil and creating a constitutional crisis - he doesn’t have to do that.

As if Schumer wouldn’t be wringing his hands about the whole thing and talking about institutions this and that.

Democratic senators are so lawful neutral it’s disgusting.

Plus, as a retired Justice, he could keep raking in the bucks from speaking and book tours.

This seems like a pretty sweet deal.

    https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/supreme-court-salary-clarence-thomas-b2466768.html

“Associate Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett and Ketanji Brown Jackson made $274,200 in 2023.”

The problem is he likes the status of power and influence more, he just wants to also be rich. But honestly, this is actually a good deal for him if he were thinking about retiring.

And the guy is 75. His maternal grandfather lived to be 76. John probably wouldn’t be on the hook for very long.

Wasn’t one of his corruption scandals that somebody bought his mother’s home and she continued to live there rent free? How old is his mother?

I think it has its own merits helping the common folk to understand that even $1 million a year for literally nothing is still not a sweet deal as what Clarence Thomas has now despite his entire tenure of bellyaching about his responsibilities.
