The site’s already been infected by bots recreating previously upvoted posts with automated ghost accounts. Why not make it even worse?

We’re going to have to retvrn to small forums whether we like it or not at this rate. Or we could just keep what we’re doing and throw all online communication into the transient void of 🤢 into 🤢 into the transient void of Discord 🤮🤮🤮

God I can’t fucking stand Discord. We used to use Teamspeak, Skype, Mumble, Vent, whatever for voice chat and maybe some small-scale comms, but big communities were always on forums, in games, whatever. You’d have to go somewhere that can actually handle a big community to participate with your community. But now they’ve just jammed these giant communities into fuckin Skype 2 and it does not work

Strong agree. Discord is such shit, I hate it. It can’t do what Teamspeak does, it can’t do what a forum does, and you’re not even allowed to fuss with the ui per their tos (betterdiscord is good)

I’m part of a discord that’s mostly irl friends who use it to share memes, personal updates in their lives, hobbies, and sometimes game together. It’s a great tool for that

Twitter and reddit both tightened their APIs because they realized the monetary value of the user contributed content. Certainly not that they didn’t want AI to be trained on it, just that they didn’t want to give it away for free.

I’ve been saying the problem with chatbots is there isn’t one that has the personality of a bloodthirsty liberal

Ohhhhh. That’s why they didn’t want us saying to kill slaveowners, they’re going to train their army of AI slaves on it.

Went to the tech sub to see what people were saying. Only funny thing was someone saying to use burner accounts on “this stupid CCP propaganda machine”. They’re so close, just gotta remove one word.

Also lol, as if burners matter when 1. reddit cares deeply about tracking users between accounts to protect their precious upvotes and 2. you’re still feeding the machine.

The fediverse might be able to win the posting wars by guaranteeing that there are real people on it.

I wonder what the AI makers will choose to do:

    • Train models on the full dataset, and have them come out trash because even a little AI-generated content poisons the training data

    • Train models only on pre-2020 data, and have it be completely out of date on news and culture

    • Train a markov model instead, because you don’t need the cutting edge to generate “epic bacon narwhal le gentlesir”

I like this given how much of reddit is bots replying to bots replying to bots. I’m no longer removing anything bad.

I expect this to lead to the end of ‘reddit + your question here’ on search engines soon enough. Time to break out a huge hdd for that eye redarc and diy.
